The Board of Directors is elected at the Annual General Meeting of the membership of The 519.

There are 11 Board Members, plus one City Councillor for Ward 27 (who is an ex-officio voting member). Members or Associate members of The 519 may be elected to the Board. An Associate member is a member who lives outside of The 519's catchment area. The catchment area is bounded by Bay, Bloor, Parliament and Gerrard. No more than 5 of the 11 Directors may be Associate members, residing outside The 519's catchment area.

The operation of The 519 is dependent on its activist Board of Management for providing direction and policy initatives to the staff. Through its sub-committes, staff and board members collaborate in determining these initiatives in the areas of:

• activites at the centre (Space Use and Programme Planning Committee);

• programme funding (Programme Fundraising Committee);

• advising on personnel issues (Human resources Policy Committee).

• accountability and future directions (Governance/Strategic Planning Committee and Nominations Committee)

Once the sub-committees have worked on an issue the Board of Directors will make the final decision on the matter.
