Join us for a film series showcasing intergenerational stories of 2-Spirit, Queer, Trans, Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour (2SQTBIPOC). For our first session, we will be screening two films:
The first film “La Bruja de Texcoco” (2019) is a short film directed by Cecilia Villaverde. It follows the story of Octavio Mendoza, a Mexico City based musician, as he embarks on a journey to reconcile with his long-lost femininity through his music.
Our second screening will be of “El Cañaveral” (The Sugarcane)” (2013) a short documentary directed by T’karonto-based artist Samuel Lopez. The film portrays Joaquín Ramírez, a member of the HIV+ gay community and a Salvadorian political activist, and his struggle to be free from an oppressive system.
Our series of screenings will feature documentaries, shorts, and films as well as community discussions on the importance of storytelling and reclaiming representation in media and art. This is part of the 519’s “Each Other’s Magnitude” a 2SQTBIPOC Intergenerational Storytelling initiative.
Free admission. RSVP is appreciated but not mandatory.
