Congratulating Salah Bachir

The 519 congratulates our Honorary Patron, Salah Bachir, on being named to the Order of Ontario, the province's highest honour.

Salah is a tireless advocate of LGBTQ2S rights, and a passionate supporter of The 519. He has been hosting The 519 Annual Gala over the last 15 years to raise funds for our programs and services. The Annual Gala by Salah Bachir raises critical funds for The 519’s year-round programs and services that largely remain unfunded – including our LGBTQ Refugee Support, and Trauma-informed Counselling programs. Salah also spearheaded the successful capital campaign to expand and renovate The 519 in 2004. To recognize his efforts and his personal pledge in the capital renovations, the expansion was named the Salah J. Bachir Wing.

Salah is one of the most passionate champions of The 519 and of the LGBTQ2S communities.

-Stacy Kelly, Director Philanthropy at The 519

Salah’s ongoing support for The 519 is part of his legacy. We are so thrilled that his achievements are being honoured.

– Maura Lawless, Executive Director, The 519

A prominent philanthropist, a successful entrepreneur, patron of the arts, the current President of Cineplex Media, and the fourth Chancellor of OCAD University, Salah Bachir is one of 21 new appointments to the Order of Ontario.
