[Press Release] The 519 to Honour Esteemed Author John Irving with Ally Award
Thursday, September 30, 2021 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
We grieve, remember, and honour the many children whose lives were taken by Canada's residential school system. We also acknowledge the continued impact of these violent systems on survivors, their families, and communities; the many missing and murdered Indigenous women and children; as well as the ongoing genocide of Indigenous people across Turtle Island.
Recognizing the significance of this day, and the opportunity it presents to engage in the important work of reconciliation, our staff will spend the day learning, reflecting upon, and engaging in the work of reconciliation. The 519 will be closed to the public on Thursday, September 30, 2021. There will be no onsite or virtual programs and services. We resume Friday, October 1, 2021, regular hours.
We invite you to join us in this work by learning and reflecting in ways that matter to you:
Indigenous peoples across Canada can go to The Hope for Wellness Help Line 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for counselling and crisis intervention. Call the toll-free Help Line at 1-855-242-3310 or connect to an online chat at: www.hopeforwellness.ca.
