Individual Volunteer

Come be a part of The 519’s vibrant volunteer team!

At The 519, our volunteers play a crucial role in supporting our diverse range of programs and events. Whether you are interested in assisting with community initiatives, contributing strategically to our various departments, or bringing your unique skills to specialized roles, there is a place for you here.

Why Volunteer with Us?

As a volunteer at The 519, you’ll make a meaningful difference in 2SLGBTQIA+ communities in Toronto and beyond. You’ll connect with like-minded individuals, develop new skills, and share your talents in a welcoming and inclusive environment.

Requirements

  • Volunteers must be 18 years or older.
  • Attendance at a mandatory Volunteer Orientation Session is required.

Flexible Volunteering Options

At The 519, there are no minimum monthly hour requirements. Once you complete the onboarding process, you’ll join our volunteer team and receive email notifications about new opportunities. These may include:

  • Programs & Services: Volunteers interested in ongoing roles can apply for positions based on available Volunteer Role Descriptions. If selected, they will support the program on a recurring basis, typically once a week (or as needed).
  • Events: One-time volunteer opportunities, where sign-ups operate on a first-come, first-served basis through our volunteer software. Some volunteers participate only in major events like Green Space Festival in June—and we’re always happy to welcome them back each year!

In-Person Volunteer Opportunities

The majority of our volunteer opportunities are in person. At this time, we do not offer virtual volunteer roles. Our volunteers actively engage with community members, provide direct support at events, and help deliver essential programs—all of which require on-site participation at The 519 (519 Church St, Toronto).

Please note that volunteer registration is currently closed as we have reached our volunteer capacity. We will reopen registration in April.
