On May 17, 2023, International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia (IDAHOBT), Toronto’s 2 Spirit, queer, and trans communities and allies gathered in solidarity and celebration. We called it ‘Prance and Protest’.
Prance and Protest was an act of radical queer joy. Organized by The 519, Canada’s most prominent 2SLGBTQ+ multi-service agency – it recognized and celebrated the power of coming together as a community to unite against the anti-2SLGBTQ+ hate and rhetoric we’re seeing escalating in our country, in the USA, and across the world.
The evening was replete with speeches, words of affirmation and comfort, food, community, and performances by Prince Manny Dingo, Kenya Rami, Queer of Sheba, Sush Patel, and DJ Fawn Big Canoe. Join us in our continued fight for love, justice, and equity.
Thanks to our communities, performers, staff, and allies who showed up in community and solidarity. We will continue to mobilize, organize, and fight for our rights and safety, until nobody is left behind.
