The 519 EarlyON Child and Family Centre is a supportive space for families of diverse sexual orientations, gender identities, and configurations and their children (ages 0 to 6) to meet, play, talk, learn, and grow with each other. We provide 2SLGBTQ+ affirming early learning activities, music and movement, creative experiences, and parent education. Our supportive staff can assist in accessing information about parenting and child development, community resources, online programming, and parent/caregiver workshops.
Responsibilities
- Greet and sign in the participants who enters the space (family/caregiver/guardians) and their children.
- Assist with the overall program delivery (i.e., prepping snacks, playing, and engaging with children, communicating with parents/caregivers/guardians, cleaning up the space, disinfecting toys, assisting to set up the space and tearing down)
- Share community resources that may be applicable
- Report to staff for any hazards, emergencies, or concerns during programming.
- Using the correct pronouns of participants and preferred names.
Skills and Experiences
- Have an interest playing and working with children 0-6 years of age.
- Confidence in interacting with adults (parents/caregivers/guardians) of children from 0-6 years of age.
- Ability to stand for some periods of time
- Ability to get on the children’s eye level while communicating/playing with them. (i.e., sitting on the floor/mat/ children’s chair).
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work in a team and following directions
Time Commitment
- 4 months minimum commitment
- One shift per week. Option for shifts (based on program’s needs):
- 9:30AM- 2:00PM from Tuesdays to Fridays,
Training and Orientation
- Volunteer Orientation (Required)
- On-the-job training will be provided by staff on first scheduled shift.
Volunteer Selection
- Interested volunteers may be asked to participate in a group and/or one on one interview to determine suitability
- Interested applicants will be supported to complete a vulnerable sector screening.
